Charmaine Olivia
The process of this match was somewhat "backwards" compared to how I typically operate. If I had sought out a match for this mural by Charmaine Olivia, I doubt I could have found anything to pair with it since it is so unique! To be honest, I don’t really do many matches with figures to begin with (aside from Adnate’s, which is surrounded by patterning) so I’m not surprised that I initially wrote this off super difficult to match.
As fate would have it, while I was searching for a different mural to match, I came across an Alice and Olivia dress (see below) that immediately reminded me of the bottom of Charmaine Olivia's mural with its space-like, intergalactic quality. Remember playing with kaleidoscopes as a kid? The patterning on this mural totally reminds me of those! When I compared the two I knew it'd be a great fit and through a little more searching I then came across the skirt using the same material and it was a done deal.
I had the chance to meet Charmaine at the Crocker Art Museum ArtMix kick off party for Wide Open Walls. One thing I love so much about Dressed To Match is the amazing people I’ve met from doing this! It’s amazing to connect with artists, followers from IG, and other art lovers. I already have a connection to Charmaine’s mural because of my match with it, but to meet her makes it that much more special to me!
