Robert Standish
I'm so excited to share this match with you guys! I've been fascinated with Robert Standish's work for a few years now and have been dying to do a match with one of his dynamic impasto paintings. After several weeks of planning, everything finally came together this past weekend, and let me tell you... it took a small village to make that happen!
Prior to my visit, Robert and Chad, the gallery director at Martin Lawrence Galleries in San Francisco, emailed me images of the work in situ so I could pick one of the pieces in the exhibition to match. This was no easy task but once I picked this diptych, the gallery went above and beyond and offered to rehang the piece so I could get the perfect shot upon arrival. I am so grateful to the gallery for their hospitality.
Sister Natalie flew home from San Diego to visit and help shoot the match and my in-laws watched my son for the day (he's 4 months now and will make an appearance soon!). My mom came along for moral support and together, we ALL made this match happen! I think I might have whipped my head back and forth about 50 times to get the perfect shot, but it was worth it! I really wanted to infuse some movement into shot and have my hair mimic of the rhythmic patterning of Robert's piece.
